Cranston, R.I. 5 Hartford,Vermont 4

     Trailing 4-0 after four innings, the ten year olds from Cranston saw their 2008 All Star season fading away before a five run fifth inning outburst paved the way to a 5-4 come from behind victory over Hartford, Vermont.

     In the bottom of the first inning, Hartford, who was shut out 16-0 in their opener to New Canaan, Connecticut, jumped on the scoreboard with four runs on two errors and hits from Connor Brooks and Jacob Perkins. 

     With both pitchers from Hartford (Connor Brooks) and Cranston (David Cushman) settling into a groove, both offenses were held in check until the fifth inning.

      In the top of the fifth inning, Matt O'Rourke singled to lead off the inning.  After advancing to second on passed ball, he scored when Gersham Rainone reached on an on three base error.  Rainone, then, scored on Andrew Ciaciarelli's sacrifice fly.     With two out, Cranston scored three more runs on a walk (Matt Pion) and two singles (Matt Sweeney and Christian Martinelli). 

     Picking up the complete game victory for Cranston was David Cushman.  After a rocky first inning, Cushman, who struck out ten batters, allowed only one hit the remainder of the game.

Keene shuts out Cranston, 6-0!

Keene, New Hampshire 6 Cranston, R.I. 0

     Led by the no-hit pitching of Lucas Lower, Kylan Strong, and Isaac Segal, Keene shutout Cranston, 6-0. 

     Lower, who picked up th victory, struck out two and allowed no hits in three innings of steady work.  Strong, who pitched the fourth and fifth innings, struck out two.  Isaac Segal pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning.

     Offensively, Keene received contributions from Kylan Strong (1 for 4, one run scored), Connor Gaughan (1 for 3), Lucas Lower (1 for 3, two runs scored), Isaac Segal (2 for 4, two runs scored), Peter Brower (two run double), Eric Zecchia (single), and Noah Clark (single).

West Warwick wins opener, 10-0!

West Warwick, R.I. 10  Milford, Mass. 0

    Led by the hitting of Kyle Henseler (2 for 3, one r.b.i. triple, and one run scored) and the solid shutout pitching of Ray Zincone, Joe Maynard, and Tyler Boisclair, West Warwick (Rhode Island State Champions) defeated Milford (Western Massachusetts Champions), 10-0.

     Zincone, who pitched out of two jams in the first and second innings, struck out four batters, walked two and allowed only two hits.  Maynard, who walked three batters in middle relief, struck out three batters to end the third inning.  Boisclair struck out two batters in a 1-2-3 fourth inning.

     In the bottom of the first inning, West Warwick scored three runs on three walks, one hit batsmen, and hits by Kyle Henseler (lead off single) and Andrew In (two run single).

     In the bottom of the second inning, West Warwick broke open the game with five runs on hits by Joe Maynard (lead off single), Kyle Henseler (r.b.i. triple), and Trevor Lawton (two run opposite field single).

     Offensively, West Warwick received contributions from Henseler (2 for 3), Zincone (two runs scored), Matt Grenier (two walks and one run scored), Boisclair (1 for 3, 1 r.b.i.), Lawton (1 for 1, two walks, two runs scored, and 2 r.b.i.'s), Mike Pellerin (r.b.i. single), Andrew In (1 for 2, 2 r.b.i.'s),  Joe Maynard (2 for 2, one run scored), and David LaMountain (1 r.b.i.).

South Weymouth edges Messalonskee, 3-1.

South Weymouth, Mass.  3  Messalonskee, Maine 1

     In the closest game of opening day, South Weymouth (Eastern Massachusetts Champions) came from behind to defeated Messalonskee, Maine, 3-1. 

     Picking up the victory for South Weymouth was Brian Urmano.  Urmano, who pitched all six innings, allowed only one run on seven scattered hits while striking out six batters. 

     Messalonskee received a solid effort from starter Nick Mayo.  Mayo, who worked three innings in the hot and humid afternoon, allowed no hits and struck out five batters.

     In the top of the second inning, Messalonskee jumped out on top with one run on hits by Klint Hall and Jonathan Wilkie.

     In the bottom of the fifth inning, South Weymouth scored three runs on two errors, one walk, and a bases clearing single by Brian Urmano.

      Offensively, Messalonskee received hits from Jared Cunningham (2 for 3), Jon Wilkie (2 for 3), Dylan Burton (1 for 3), Nick Mayo (1 for 2), and Klint Hall (1 for 3).

     South Weymouth received hits from Brian Urmano and Jay Davern.

New Canaan buzzes by Hartford, 16-0!

New Canaan, Conn. 16 Hartford, Vermont 0

     Led by the pitching of Zach Allen and an offense that pounded out 11 hits in four innings, New Canaan (Connecticut) defeated Hartford, 16-0.

     Allen, who only pitched the first two innings, struck out six of the seven batters he faced as New Canaan built a 8-0 lead during the first two innings. 

     David Giusti, who struck out five batters in two innings of relief, allowed only one hit (Austin Snynder) in the fourh inning.

     Offensively, New Canaan received contributions from Colin Tiller (1 for 3, two runs scored), Klye Levasseur (two runs scored), Zach Allen (r.b.i. single), Alex LaPolice (2 for 3, one double, two runs scored, and 2 r.b.i.'s), Zack Smith (r.b.i. double), Justin Clark (2 for 4, two doubles, two runs scored, and 4 r.b.i.'s), Harry Mooly(r.b.i. double), Thomas Williams (one run scored), Jim Fahey (1 for 3, two runs scored), and David Giusti (2 for 3).
